Safe Harbor Southington is a community-based refugee resettlement group, comprised of committed volunteers from diverse backgrounds, living primarily in Southington, Connecticut.
We formed in 2022 for the purpose of co-sponsoring and assisting refugees who are seeking to rebuild their lives within our community.
Safe Harbor Southington believes all refugees approved for resettlement in the U.S. deserve the chance to begin successful new lives. Refugee families have lost homes, family, country,
culture and jobs.
They often come with little to no material possessions. They have no income, most do not speak English, and many are victims of trauma because they have fled war or persecution.
As great as their needs are, their potential to enrich our community is even greater.
Our mission is to connect and empower newly arrived refugees in the Hartford area and to help them acclimate to the community. We work to secure an apartment, donated furniture, household goods, and other personal items for their new life.
We prevent food insecurity, ensure children are registered in school and adults start English as a Second Language (ESOL) so that they can prepare for employment.
We help the family navigate public transportation (and initially provide them with rides) and we help them obtain jobs with the goal of being financially self-sufficient within 6 months.
We provide a social network, friendship and opportunity to grow. We believe that through community involvement, we can offer refugees a safe harbor and an opportunity to begin a new life.
Sign up to hear from us about upcoming meetings, needs we have for our family, and opportunities to get involved.
